The Anglophone Crisis Continues as Calls for Action Grow Louder

Since 2016, the Anglophone Crisis in Cameroon has steadily intensified, becoming one of the most prolonged and underreported humanitarian emergencies in Africa. Nearly a decade later, escalating violence, mass displacement, and deepening human suffering continue to devastate communities in the Northwest and Southwest regions—known to many advocates as the Southern Cameroons.

For affected families, silence and inaction have not eased the pain. Instead, the lack of decisive international intervention has allowed atrocities to persist, leaving civilians trapped amid armed conflict, insecurity, and humanitarian deprivation. Mothers, children, and the elderly remain the most vulnerable, facing disrupted education, limited access to healthcare, food shortages, and daily threats to their safety.

The scale of the crisis is alarming. In a November 2025 report, the Global Centre for the Responsibility to Protect, citing the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), stated that more than 1.5 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance in the Anglophone regions. OCHA further estimates that at least 334,098 people have been internally displaced by violence, while more than 76,493 have fled to neighboring Nigeria seeking refuge.

Advocacy organizations continue to amplify these realities on the global stage. Friends of Ambazonia Incorporated, the leading advocacy groups highlighting the crisis, emphasized the urgency of international engagement. “The continued suffering of our people is not a lack of evidence, but a lack of action. Every day the world delays meaningful intervention, more lives are lost, families are shattered, and an entire generation grows up in fear. The time for decisive, compassionate action is now,” says Dr. Emmanuel Tita, President, Friends of Ambazonia, Incorporated.
Despite the staggering humanitarian toll, advocacy efforts remain unwavering. Activists, members of the diaspora, faith leaders, and human rights organizations are strategically engaging policymakers, hosting forums, and sustaining prayerful appeals for peace. Their message is consistent: awareness without action is no longer enough.

As time passes, the struggle for change intensifies. Each year without resolution deepens displacement, prolongs instability, and entrenches cycles of violence. Inaction, rather than extinguishing resistance, appears to fuel a growing hope—and determination—for justice and self-determination among affected communities.

While advocacy campaigns are increasingly sparking conversations in diplomatic and international circles, those living through the crisis stress that attention alone does not save lives. The cries of the oppressed demand concrete steps—protection for civilians, unhindered humanitarian access, accountability for abuses, and a credible pathway to a peaceful political solution.

As 2025 comes to a close and 2026 begins, cautious hope persists among supporters of the Anglophone cause. Many believe renewed global focus could bring meaningful change, including the possibility of a free and independent Ambazonia. Others emphasize that regardless of political outcomes, peace remains both possible and essential.
What remains undeniable is this: the suffering must end. The world’s eyes must turn toward the mothers and children of the Former British Southern Cameroons, and the international community must move beyond expressions of concern to decisive action. A peaceful solution is not only desired—it is long overdue.

A Prayer for Ambazonia!

Gracious and Merciful God,
We lift up the people of Ambazonia before You. You see the suffering, the displacement, the broken homes, and the cries of those whose voices feel unheard. Lord, bring comfort to the grieving, protection to the vulnerable, and healing to all who have been wounded in body, mind, and spirit.

We pray for peace where there is violence, justice where there is oppression, and wisdom for leaders and decision-makers. Soften hardened hearts, silence the weapons of war, and open paths toward honest dialogue and reconciliation.

Strengthen pastors, parents, teachers, and peacemakers who continue to stand for hope amid fear. Let Your light break through the darkness, restoring dignity, and lasting peace.

In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
